Terry Davis FRICS – General CV

Terry Davis was educated at Maidstone Grammar School for Boys and Hammersmith College of Art and Building, later known as Thames Polytechnic.  He originally qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor elected to Membership of the RICS in 1972 and to Fellow in 1985.  After a brief period working as a Quantity Surveyor, Terry commenced working in property development, initially as a Building Surveyor working for the house builder, Trackrail rising to Chief Surveyor.

He then moved onto Project Management at Norman Rourke and Partners and also Fuller Peiser.  Terry then had a long period of employment at Property Holding and Investment Trust Plc as Company Building Surveyor responsible for portfolio management including dilapidations and latterly as Development Manager in control of a number of multi million pound developments.  During this period he changed his RICS Membership to General Practice and now works on specialist valuation and building surveying instructions.  He set up his own practice in 1989 based in his home town of Maidstone.

He is registered with the RICS as an Expert Witness in a number of categories including diminution valuations (both for dilapidations and other purposes), matrimonial dispute valuations, negligence claims and Proceeds of Crime Act valuations.  He has given oral evidence on numerous occasions over the last twenty five years and acted as a Litigant in person in the High Court and below.

Terry is a member of the RICS Dilapidations Forum Steering Group, the Dilapidation Guidance Note Working Group and a keen contributor to the Dilapidations Forum, he has spoken at a number of venues including the 2010 Dilapidation Conference and the 2010 and 2011 RICS Dilapidation Roadshows.

Terry is a keen windsurfer and catamaran/dinghy sailor and was Commodore of Whitstable Yacht Club for seven years.  He remains on the Management Committee with responsibility for property matters, a role he has held for the last sixteen years. He is also Chairman of a local land owning charity and spends much of his spare time on fund raising and other events to support the charity.

Terry is a keen amateur movie maker and enjoys digital editing and the creation of films for family weddings, baptisms and holidays. He is computer literate and enjoys carrying out his own IT work when time permits.  His long suffering staff cite his irreverent approach, black humour and a total inability to accept that what he is trying to do is impossible as amongst his most aggravating faults!
